01Dental implants

A new tooth,
from the root.

A dental implant replaces the lost tooth and has two parts: the implant, which sits inside the bone, and the crown, which is screwed or cemented onto the implant once it has osseointegrated — fused — with the bone.

Depending on the conditions of each case, there are different rehabilitation options:
  • 01Implant + final crown
  • 02Implant + provisional prosthesis, to temporarily restore aesthetics and function while the integration process is completed.

02Wisdom teeth surgery

When a wisdom tooth
does not have enough room.

Wisdom teeth can remain impacted, erupt partially or grow in a position that affects other teeth, causing pain, swelling, infections or other complications.

Depending on the position and conditions of each case, it may be necessary to:
  • 01Remove a wisdom tooth that has no room to erupt correctly.
  • 02Perform surgery on an impacted or partially erupted wisdom tooth, planned according to its position and relationship with nearby structures.

03Orthognathic surgery

Surgery to achieve
harmony and function.

Orthognathic surgery corrects skeletal bite problems. It improves function and, with it, an aesthetic component that weighs heavily on the result.

Depending on the needs of each case, it may be indicated to:
  • 01Correct bite problems, that cannot be resolved with orthodontics alone.
  • 02Improve jaw function, such as chewing and proper closing of the mouth.
  • 03Harmonize facial proportions, when the position of the jaws affects the facial profile.

Dr. Daniel Rodríguez Leal

I am Daniel Rodríguez, oral and maxillofacial surgeon. I trained as a specialist at UNAM (Mexico City), hold a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from UCR and served as chief resident at UNAM and at the IMSS Trauma Hospital. Today I practice at DentoPlus, Curridabat, and teach in the UCR postgraduate program.

Frequently asked

What patients ask before deciding.

Often yes: if the bone has enough volume and quality, the implant and a provisional prosthesis can be placed in the same visit. The imaging evaluation decides.
Usually yes, with a prior or simultaneous step: bone graft or sinus lift. It lengthens the process a little but allows a stable implant.
A full-arch rehabilitation on several implants, with a hybrid prosthesis that in some cases can be immediate. The number of implants depends on the bone and the type of prosthesis.
From the X-ray: position, degree of eruption, roots and relationship to the nerve. That determines the type of procedure and the estimated time.
Both. It corrects the position of the jaws to improve the bite and, in some cases, breathing; the change in profile is a consequence of that correction.
It depends on the case. It is planned in stages: a short hospital stay, first weeks of soft diet and relative rest, and follow-ups until normal activity resumes. It is explained before surgery.
